This is a card out of ole Lee's sleeve.
Drew Westen states, "the question is why the conscious images of Obama’s audience look like America -- mostly white, 25% nonwhite -- whereas the unconsciously perceived images of Obama’s audience are all black. An ad like this isn’t made randomly."
Westen's book, The Political Brain, is a great read for any and all interested in neuroscience and American politics and how they overlap.
What Would Lee Atwater Do?
A blog ode to one of the great political operatives in recent history. As the 2012 presidential campaign roars ahead, this blog will ask the simple question, What Would Lee Atwater Do?, when ads and attacks are launched - in any level campaign.

Oh Snap
Not to be a HuffPo echo chamber, and I promise to provide a diverse list of sources for future issues, but this is the lead story on the Huffington Post right now:
The article, available here, describes the despicable nature of the ad in its intention.
PS - thanks to those who have told me that Lee Atwater would NOT blog. Agreed!

"If we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose"
Romney's campaign is receiving push-back and cries of foul play by the Obama camp because of a new ad which cites the president as saying, "If we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose." The problem is that the full quote, from 2008, is from candidate Obama criticizing candidate McCain for making that statement. While the Romney team admits to the poetic license, the communications director states, "We are using candidate Obama's 2008 campaign tactic against him." I'm not sure how using Obama's statements about another person hurt him if he can easily show that the statements were not about him but, again, another person.
I think Lee would have had a more difficult claim to debunk. What do you think?
